Cold Reading
Cold Reading
Cold reading is a technique used by psychics, mentalists, and clairvoyants, to give the impression that they know things about an individual.
Here is a video showing how this can be effective:
Barnum Statements
Barnum statements are broad statements which could apply to anybody. For example,
• You have a great need for other people to like and admire you.
• You have a tendency to be critical of yourself.
• Security is one of your major goals in life.
Rainbow Ruses
A rainbow ruse is a statement which is unlikely to be wrong, but is worded in such a way that it sounds like a convincing description of a person’s personality. For example:
• At times you lack concentration, but at other times you can be extremely focused and driven.
• You are a kind and considerate person, but if somebody breaks your trust, you can feel a great deal of anger.
You can read what was in the envelopes (there will be some new vocabulary!), as well as more information, at this link: http://www.secrets-explained.com/derren-brown/cold-reading
