Instagram PR wall! What an amazing idea.
This project was different in many ways from any others we have participated in. To begin with it was thought up, developed, refined and RUN by two seventeen year old high school students from Narva, Estonia. They said from the very beginning to use their hashtag and tossed up a poster board on a wall to be used as an Instagram PR wall, ie. we all added our account contacts there so we can follow each other more easily.
The organizers put together an exchange that truly surpassed what I had expected of them considering their age and inexperience (though, this may say more about me and my assumptions). During the week the participants worked on the topic of subcultures and stereotypes. There were the typical workshops, teambuilding in the beginning, then presentations on subcultures, etc.
The entire week progressed in a natural, ergonomic way that put even the most open minded participants in a mirror, affording them the task of questioning their own views on just how willing they are to accept those that differ from them. The result being that they became more aware of how varied European culture, and within this, subcultures are. As well as the fact that these differences are one of the key elemen
ts of the European identities.
In brief, this project is a perfect example of Europe, past, present and future!
