CHoC Goes to the Azores, an Erasmus+ project

CHoC Goes to the Azores,

A student perspective

On the tenth of October a great Hungarian team arrived to Terceira where everyone met their host families

and our week finally began.

On the first day we had the opportunity to get to know the other participants and also to learn about sugar,  where it can be found, how to make it and what kind of sugars exist.

The second day we walked around Angra do Heroísmo where we could  see the most notable sights of the city. In the afternoon we were able to take part  in a wobderful boat trip around Angra Bay, Fanal Bay and São Mateus.

I would also like to highlight the third day where we visited the only visitable vulcano in the word. Then, in  the coming days we had a chance to learn about the history of Portugal and th see famous places around the island.

I was enriched with a lot of experience and new knowledge. I’m very lucky to have been able to take part  in this trip. I’m glad that I was able to experience this week with a great team!

Azores from my perspective. We departed from home as a group who barely knew each other. One the first days we got along very well together. We spent 2 nights in Lisbon that was  very great. We had a chance to visit the traditional market and also to explore the city.

Arrive to terceira we landed on the third day to a very small air port. Before the landing I had  very excited to fly by some city or cost from the island. Sadly we landed in big fog so I hadn’t had the opportunity to see the island from the sky. After we collected our luggage we able to met our host family. One the way home I get a full tour of the island and my host’s fader told some interesting stuff. On the same day João who is my host told me “we can go in to the town and he has some friends who are already waiting for us. We walked a lot and explored Angra do Heroísmo and also go down to the coast. Where we met guy who is go down to the port and practice football every day since João now him. We walking by the coast when João’s friend told me a story about a sunken ship in the bay and said maybe later on the week we be able to dive down to see it. That first day on the terceira was insanely great. Second day we went to school to participate some workshops of sugar. After school we went to bowling to the local club nearly all of the students together.

After bowling we stayed for dinner and talked about our life how impossible to compare a city life to an island one. People behavior or the things what you can do, how can you  live here. On Tuesday we had time to walk in the city before we go to the boat trip. In the city we visited a few museums and the church. But the fun part was the boat trip. Go directly to the open water in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. We also had the opportunity to sit the front edge of the boat. Every 10 seconds a wave hit our legs. When we reached the coast Levi and Juli leg looked like “wet dog” because they were wearing a long trouser. Afternoon we or at least me get some info to be carful whit the rock and the jellyfish. After it we went swimming into the ocean. We cloud jump from 3-4 meter above from the sea. That feeling when you are at the end of the rock and ready to jump down is irreplaceable. Wednesday we had a bus trip to I think the highest point of the island. From there we be able to see the whole island. After lunch we go see some Vulcans. The habitants called Mysterio because it displayed the power of the earth. And we not only saw them we went directly inside one of them. Actually it sound not safe but it worth it.

On Thursday we went to visit the castle what they build to protect the harbor. The ships needed to stop somewhere between the continents. Here everything was given for a stop, hospital, safety from pirates and also from the weather.  That day wasn’t lasted for so long the rain ruined it. But we had time to go some shops to and caffès.

Friday the last day on the island we made some summary presentations of the week.
The afternoon was free so we went down to swim. Although the wind wasn’t to big the waves were huge. At least we tried the angry ocean too.

We started the trip with flying to Lisbon with the Hungarian team. We had some free time in Lisbon where we got to know each other a bit more.  The time spent in Lisbon was really fun and a good start to our Trip to Terceira.

We then flewto Terceira. The host’s family was waiting for us at the airport. We talked a bit with the family, then they asked me if I wanted to see the island. I said yes, of course. They took me around the Island by car, they showed me beautiful places and also spoke a lot about the places I saw. Then we had a little free time at home. I talked to my host, he was very nice the whole time. First night we went to eat out, we had dinner with one of the family’s friends. The friend they brought also had a guest who was with my Hungarian team so we could have fun together. I tried a traditional food which was very tasty.

The days we were there were very fun. We had a lot of good programmes with the project, and the school. It wasn’t boring, or anything. And after the programmes we always had free time when we could do something with our host and friends. We got along with all the project members and they were cool to hang out with. I will miss the friends I made and also the good time I had there.

Choc Erasmus+

Terceira

As you probably guessed already, I was in an Erasmus+ project in Terceira, which is one of the Azorean islands. I will tell you what happened in that one week, when I was there.

First, the project is about chocolate, and how the chocolate got in Europe. This island is beetween America and Europe, and the travellers stayed at Terceira, when they went, or came from America, and that is why this island is important. So, the first day we went tot he school and had some ice breaking games, which I really liked. After that the students talked about chocolate and sugar and the history of the island. After we had the chance to watch a women making alfenim, which is a traditional thing ont he island, it’s like boiled hard sugar, they eat it on christmas eve. We had the chance to see their school too. The second day was the longest day, frist we went to see a church that was a hospital, after we saw tha building where they have meetings with other countries, after we went to a museum, which was about the history of Terceira and Angra do Heroismo. I really enjoyed the museum. We went to see the mayor, he talked about the history of Angra and Terceira, he was very kind. After we went to a boat trip, it was my favourite. We started the third day with a bus trip, tot he place where the Spanish attacked the Island, and then we went to a working vulcano, which was really cool, after we wetn inside of the vulcano. The fourth day we visited Mount brasil, which is aplace where there are soldiers. The last day we had a workshop, about Dona Amélia cake, and we had to maek presentetions, about each day in groups, and the finish was a Kahoot game, about the week.

So that was my trip, I really enjoyed it, and I made new friends from Portugal, Belgium, Spain and Italy. I’m glad that I had this opportunity.
