Project week in Torrellano, Spain
Project week in Torrellano, Spain, 26.03.2023-02.04.2023, HOME project
Dóra Antall-Margitta:
During our week in Spain, I had many new experiences. I was able to live with a nice family, and for a week I moved as part of the family. We arrived together, did afternoon programs, and once even watched the Palm Sunday parade together. We made each other laugh as if there were no language barriers. I also learned a lot of Spanish words which may be useful in the future. In addition to the beautiful beaches and sparkling sunshine, we saw many interesting historical monuments, and natural wonders. I lived in a city close to Alicante, and I absolutely adored it. The name of the city was Elche or Elx and it was a wonderful and lively city to stay at. I’ve learned a lot about the culture and history of the city from my host family. The region elche was in was filled with palm trees, and rocky mountains which made the view of the landscape extraordinary. I am really hoping to be back one day, there’s still a lot to see in the south of Spain.

My days in Spain
It was my fourth Erasmus travel however it was my first time to being a guest in a family. I can say that it was fantastic, my host family was amazing. I spoke with them more or less in Spanish which I have been learning for 3 years, it was my first chance to test my Spanish therefore I had been afraid from it but fortunately I could understand a lot of things, I could order ice cream and I could answer a few questions which were asked to me too, so I am proud of myself. I am so glad that I could be a part of a real Spanish family and through them I got to know the Spanish culture such as the food, the music and people’s life mentality which is way different from ours. Moreover, I have visited a lot of awesome places and I have done many cool activities with foreigners.
Al final (finally), I am thankful that I have learnt a lot about different cultures, the Spanish language and about myself too during this Erasmus and I am truly hoping that I will be able to go there again.

Elche, Alicante, and the Island of Tabarca
During our stay in Spain, we visited three noteworthy destinations that were all unique and exquisite.
First, we visited Elche, a city best described as peaceful and tidy. It is well known for its’ vast palm tree population, filling the city with plenty of shade and relaxing parks of green.
Alicante is a seaside city with an unforgettable view. Before we landed in Torellano, Alicante’s lights and its’ proud castle already caught our eye on the plane. The weather was fantastic as we got off our bus in Alicante. We walked across the city, visited a church, and crossed the city centre. Next a long walk lead us up a hill side all the way to the castle, while the journey may have been tiring, it was worth every step. The view presented from the top was incomparable to anything I, and others have ever seen. The endless stretch of the sea, the busy city and the lazy, dusted mountains unite perfectly to make for an unparalleled experience.
On Friday, the last full day of the project we visited the tiny yet precious Island of Tabarca, a ~20-minute boat ride took as from the coast to the lonesome piece of land. Tabarca can be walked across in ten minutes, but it serves as a perfect destination for a day trip. The beach side is peaceful, and the clear blue sea makes for the best refresher on a spring day reaching the hights of 30 degrees.
Luca Jaksa:
Although it wasn’t my first Erasmus + trip, I have never stayed with a host family before. I was quite nervous, because my host told me that his family doesn’t really speak english, but we managed to understand eachother in the end.
My host was a guy who came to Budapest with this Erasmus, so I was thrilled when he reached out to me and asked if I would like to be his guest. Our friendship grew stronger during my stay in Spain, wich I am very grateful for.
I also made a lot of other friends, from every nation almost. We talked about our differences, and similarities, our routines, our everyday life. We promised if any of us ever need a house to stay at, when visiting that country, we are happy to offer ours.
People weren’t the only thing that made me smile every day during the trip: the places we visited, Alicante, Elche, Tabarca, Torellano, were breathtaking. There were palm trees everywhere, and the streets were suprisingly clean. We went to see the beach twice too, it was also quite beautiful.
After all, I am thankful, that I had this opportunity to take part in this Erasmus + project. It helped me improve my communication skills in English, and helped me realize that my world isn’t that little as I thought. I can have relationships with people, who live far, far away from me, and I can keep those if, I sacrifice enough from my energy and time. I am also seventy percent sure, that I want to move to Spain when I start university.

HOME Erasmus in Spain
Fist of all this was my best erasmus experience. This week felt like a vacation with so many awesome people. I lived with a nice family, we did get on well even if we didn’t even speek the same language. They took us to the beach almost everyday and we swam in the ocean as if wasn’t ice cold. Besides that we went to see two cities, an island and lot of historical monuments. I would like to highlight two HOME erasmus programs the rock band and the performance i didn’t even understand. Other HOME activity i liked very much was the party with the other erasmus group and our final party. Saying goodbye was the hardest part of the whole project, but i’m so glad that i was able to experience this week.
