Great Ghent

The week in Gent (apr. 22-28)

First of all the flight was totally awesome and really funny because one of my friends was so scared: that was her first flight. After a really long journey we arrived to Gent and that city was unbelievably beautiful. The family I stayed with was nice and the houses were marvellous so I felt home in the first time I went through the door. The programs were tiring but I enjoyed all, especially when we walked at the sea coast. I enjoyed the biking also so I want to go cycling when we come back to Hungary.

When I saw the Chiro, my first expression was that everybody here is so friendly and more open than in my city. I want to stay here and maybe live here for a while, because the living circumstances are so much better than in Hungary. I was amazed every time, because of the food (all the food was delicious) and the differences because everything is different here.

We had a good sight seeing tour on the first day, and I could make a graffiti. I had a chance to meet two people from Syria and they had horrible experiences so it was half interesting half sad. After that we did a bit of work, we reconditioned a road in a kind of ,,hospital” full of kids with different problems. Than I tried to walk with a dog: that one was so cool and I had interesting talk with some Belgian. Yesterday I looked after an elder person who was in a wheelchair and yes that was hard but I enjoyed it a lot.

We went to a thrift shop once either and I went to a second hand shop with my host. We also celebrated my classmate’s birthday.

I had awesome time here and I’m really thankful to come here. My host did everything for me and she was so kind to me.

The meeting in Gent
This week was a really good one. We went to Gent with the Erasmus+ project and we had a really good time there.

The first day was just chilling, enjoying ourselves. In the second day, we went to our hosts school, it’s call Sint-Janscollege, and we participated in one class. I went with my host to Dutch (history and stuff like that) and I really enjoyed it, because the kids were nice and the teacher was funny even when he was speaking in Dutch. After, we went to the city in little groups and it was really cool. We had to do tasks like, hug 15 people or write a poem. We were walking around the city and learning stuff, like in Gent, there is a big pole on a square and every time a child born, the pole flashes. It a was really funny day and my team was really nice and friendly. We had so much fun together. And in the end, we won the game! The next day, we went to take a fast look into a food bank. We learned about how the things works in there, how the food arrives there ect. We also listened two people, who were coming to Belgium a few years ago, because of the war in Syria. It was really sad and otherwise interesting to listen these people experiences. In the afternoon, we went to help to different places and did some work there. We had to clean a road from the grass in a “school” for children who have mental problems. In Wednesday, we went to walk with the dogs  and the others went to a museum. I really enjoyed it, because the park where we had to walk with the dogs was really nice and the dogs were really cute. The other day we went to “hiking”. First we took an exclusive bus and went maybe two hours with it. After half an hour we stopped to meet with elder people, and with them on the board we went to watch a really beautiful cemetery with them. After we went to a place where were lot of statues, because the respect for the First World War soldiers. It looked really amazing. The poor thing is, the statues won’t be there so long, just until November if I am right. But I hope will see them again.

This was a really amazing week, I really enjoyed it. Belgium is just amazing the way it is. It’s absolutely perfect in my eyes.  I hope that in the future I will be able to come here again.

I learned a lot here and made friends. I will miss them so much.

Good Bye Belgium!

The Belgian meeting

To be honest at the beginning of the week my expectations were low. I think it’s because of my pessimistic teenage attitude to everything, but I quickly changed my mind. I’ve have had so much fun doing everything with everyone in the project. I had an equal amount of fun during the activities and during the time in between the activities.

The first day during the city quest I felt like the only thing i could do was follow the Belgian students around since all the tasks were in dutch. I feel like the groups could have worked together better if they were in English and it also would have been more interesting.

On Tuesday I found the hole day very interesting.

Wednesday was one of my favorite days. I not only because we had the day off, but I really enjoyed my time in the muzeum.

I really enjoyed my time pushing one of the elderly ladies yesterday. She was so sweet and wize, we talked the whole time in the park. She told me that she had a little girl from Romania visit her every year, for 14 years. She said the little girls last name was Lakatos, which is a Hungarian last name. I find it so interesting that I of all people got to push (in  a wheelchair) a woman who actually knew someone who has some kind of link to Hungary.

This week went by too fast. I will miss all my friends from this project.

Mondok Máté project report

The week was quite interesting. We had a few program which was a bit boring but at all the week was good. My host (Emiel Dubois) was really friendly and his family too. We went everywhere by bicycle. We had a few boring programs for example on Thursday we went to British Cemetery. The cemetery was beautiful but we traveled three hours. My only problem was that I was really hungry during the week because we ate only sandwiches and yeah kind a these foods. The agenda was a bit unorganized because once we didn’t have any free time but for next we a half day, so yeah what I missed is the balance. At all it was a wonderful weak. And my English skills have evolved a lot.

Project report

The week was very interesting. I had a good week. I had some problem with some belgian kids like my host. So I didn’t have enough time to watch Gent. But I almost did it. The other problem was, we never eat breakfast and I was hungry all the mornings and I can not buy anything because I didn’t have enough time to buy. For lunch we always ate sandwiches and that was tasty but not enough.

I think the „city quest” was a good idea but just for the hosts because it was in dutch and we didn’t know what we have to do. Our guide did everything and we just walk in quite. The cemetery and the other things what connected to the world war one that was interesting. And Brugge was so beautiful but we were there just one hour and that was bad. Maybe we need to be in cemetery a less hour and in Brugge more than one.

But I have a good time in Gent. I want to come back when it possible and also I made friendship with some Belgian kids.

I was very excited for this week because someone I didn’t know was going to live at my home for a whole week. But I think this week was fun and educational, we did a lot of interesting things and we met very nice people, I made some new friends this week and I really enjoyed having a guest over at my place because you meet with a new culture and I think that’s interesting.

The first day I went to the sea with my guest, it was like the second time that she saw the see and it was a really cosy trip. The next day we did a city game in Ghent and we were able to spray graffiti in the graffitistreet, that was a whole new experience. We also visited Bruges and Ypres, we walked with elder people from the retirement home and we visited the Oxfam store and the fairtrade shop in Deinze. We also walked with Dogs from the animal shelter.

Today is the last day and we are going to bake cookies for elder people. I think this week was really succesfull and I certainly want to do it again!

ComServ meeting in Ghent

I  already knew that I have to come here, when we had the meeting in Hungary. So I did as many things I could to be chosen for this trip. In Hungary I already made friends with Elise so when we knew I’m coming everything we wanted is her to be my host. We talked with our teachers and then, she organized the whole week for me: living in the boarding school with her plus the days when the school is closed.

The first day I had time to get to know about Belgium and even The Netherlands. It was like love at first sight, everything is so lovely here so I already knew my week is going to be perfect.

On Monday the “city quest” was very creative and it had a lot of exciting tasks, but I couldn’t enjoy it because it was in dutch. So the whole program was about the kids who knew dutch figure out the things and the others just walking behind them. In the morning we also visited classes and that was really interesting for me, because I had the opportunity to see how it is like in Belgium. (we should have done this too)

Tuesday  we had a conversation with a refugee couple, what was very interesting for me because I didn’t know a lot about this. After that we went and took a fast look in a food bank, listened how everything works there. In the afternoon we went to do some community service. I went to a House for Disable people, I liked a lot to work with them it was really special. The next day we had a free forenoon, here I walked a lot and got to know Ghent better. The afternoon I visited Ostend with the boarding school and we looked at a lot of street art there, had a lot of fun.

Thursday was a beautiful day, picking up people form the Retirement Home, going to the cemetery, reading the poems and going to the Langemark. My favorite was

Bruges. It’s a perfect little city.

On Friday we had the Amnesty International meeting in the school. Since I never heard of this it really caught my attention and I’m thinking of organizing something like this in my school as well. Saturday morning we had to say goodbye to everyone there. It was very sad because we made a lot of friends there. My host did everything for me, my week couldn’t have been better. I hope we meet again soon.

The Erasmus experience

Erasmus wasn’t planned. When the teacher, Mr Parmentier, did a call for 5 host families I felt agreed. Some of my friends had the same feeling; we consulted with each other and when my parents agreed we applied for it.

On Sunday morning, Maté, a 15 years old boy arrived.

Maté turned out to be a cool, social and interest guy who wants to get the maximum out of Erasmus. He became 16 in the middle of the Ersamusweek; a special event.

We experienced an intense week. A well-stocked program where we liked to add some extra encouragement with our school friends.

I kept a good feeling from the whole week.

In addition to the social and cultural activities, I was strongly challenged to the use of the English language. It promoted my English knowledge.

For me Erasmus was a real positive experience which a can recommend everyone.
