Ghent is even better than that….

CHoC+Ghent+Erasmus = Life Changing Experience

Two teachers from Poli had the chance to escort a small group of students to Ghent, Belgium at the end of March within the framework of the Erasmus+ project entitled The Cultural History of Cacao, AKA CHoC!

We all know that Belgium is a chocolate powerhouse, however, many do not know that this is/was based on the rather sorted past of a certain, bloody king and colonialism. Learning about this was an eye opener for the Hungarian, Portuguese and Spanish teams.

Taking the time to point out the issues of history made the main topic of the mobility – Fair Trade in the chocolate/cacao indusstry much more easy to comprehend. Rather than just being something that sounds good, or even worse, trendy, it was something driven home by the teachers and the participants from Ghent.

Peer to peer, non-formal teaching/methods on the teacher and student level offered all the participants amazing insight, understanding and world view changing experiences.

Amazing how a topic as mundane as cacao can  turn out to be fascinating, entertaining, educational and life altering.
