Stepping Up Against, not Out, Project reports from Take a Step Against Discrimination – Next Level

This Erasmus program was different from any others I know of.

For starters there were a lot of adults but also some high schoolers even younger than us, hungarians. The place we stayed at was absolutely mesmerising with the historical building and the beautiful forest. When we got there on the first day there were no workshops and we had the opportunuty to just get to know each other and start memorizing all the names and faces.

The next few days were suprisingly packed with things to do and even though the sceadule was full, all the groups tasts were really fun. Mostly we did presentations on different topics related to disrimination, such as racism, sexism and many more. It was especially interesting because – as we said with the other hungarian girls – studying about these conflicts was a lot more instructive when performed by other students. Everyone could put their personal opinion and touch on the posters so we saw multiple perspectives.

My favourite day was when we spent a whole day painting the walls of the youth center. It was a wonderful bonding experience and we even got to walk aroung the city and hang out. It was more of a chill day than a exacting one so we had spent hours discussing and debating the matter of equality in today’s society. As part of the new generation it is now our responsebility too to spread awareness and fight against discrimination.

Based on what i heard from my teammates, another popular task was where we had to stay outside and take pictures around a city.

For the remaining days  we participated in different group activities and even visited a nursing home to help out and entertain the elderly.

To sum it up this teip was tiring and full of wonderful events I will never forget. I wish everyone had the opportunity to experience something like this.

I had a great time, for me these 9 days were very memorable. I was very happy to have the opportunity to speak so much English and to meet new people from different countries. The Hungarian team we went with was very good and I think we got to know each other well and became good friends. Slovenia was very beautiful, we stayed in a beautiful place in an old castle. We had lots of activities every day, I was quite tired at the end of the day but I really enjoyed it. We talked a lot about discrimination, which I think is a very important topic nowadays that everyone should talk about. We went to clean the lake and there were various exciting activities in the nearby town. At the beginning I thought it would be a long nine days, but it went by very quickly. I hope I will have the opportunity to do another Erasmus, because I really enjoyed this one too.

We had a project in Slovenia about human rights and discrimination. It was 17-19 in October, we were in a small town close to Hungary, called Murska Sobota.

On the first day we took a 5 and a half hour train ride. On the station we got picked up by the Slovenian team. We arrived to our accommodation, which was a castle. We checked in and met with the others. The Romanians, the Lithuanians, the Polish girl and the rest of the Slovenians.

Through the 7 days we got to know each other, we made some amazing new friends. We talked a lot about discriminations, and spread the awareness.  We did some cool stuff like, decorated the Youth center, made some videos, volunteered, connected with the elderly and got to make a big amount of posters.

I liked the people, the food, the country, I hope I can go back there some day.

Until than I know that you should be prepared when you dance with Slovenians.

Experience report

We were able to spend 1.5 weeks in Slovenia with the Take a step against discrimination Erasmus+ program. We arrived at the location (Murska Sobota) by train and it was a very comfortable trip. The accommodation was close to the city, we slept in a very cozy, renovated castle. The first day was spent arriving and getting to know the others.

During our stay there, we took part in several different programs. During the activities, we talked with locals and got to know their customs. In the area around Murska Sobota, I surprisingly found that the people were very calm and friendly, you could have a casual conversation with anyone on the street. Because of this, one of my favorite activities was the City Run, where we had to visit various interesting locations in the city.

Unfortunately, not all of the countries participating in Erasmus+ were able to participate, but those who came were all very friendly and, most importantly, everyone was helpful. During 1.5, we got to know the customs and traditions of different countries.

At the end of the program, I felt that most of the company had forged together and the last days passed very quickly.
