My 30 day Erasmus+ mobility – Sándor Iván László

It all started at the airport, I flew to Charleroi and went to Brugge by shuttle bus. The host family greeted me there and took me to my new home.
The next day was already at my new school. We already had my agenda established, but I still followed my host around for the first week. Everyone was very interested in me and we talked a lot, I quickly found my place in this new class. Luckily, I didn’t have to take all the classes, for example French and History, those are in Dutch so I wouldn’t have understood any of it. I went to the classes I could participate in. My favourite class was English, not only because it was the only class I could understand without someone having to translate, but because the topics were very current. We learned about chatgpt, logical fallacies, etc.
We took many trips with the family, we visited a museum in Brugge, went boating in the canals, went to the seaside, and even go-carting. All of these programmes were really fun and helped me discover more about Brugge, and Belgium in general.
The schools in Belgium have a special ceremony, called 100 days, or 100-dagen in Dutch, this happens when there’s only 100 days left of the school year. They celebrated this in a very interesting way, we got to school an hour early, and waited for the others to come and shot them with water guns. It was a bit weird for me because it was already raining and very cold, but it seemed like the others didn’t really mind. After this we went bowling and ate there too.
We also went on a trip to Brussels which was really cool because the city was huge and nice. We went to the European parliament, and played a roleplay game that was sadly also in Dutch, so I didn’t really understand anything.
My 30 day stay in Belgium was probably my longest month this year, but filled with a bunch of good (and some bad) memories. I learned a lot and gained a lot of experience which will really come in handy when I’m moving outside of Hungary for my university studies.
